Relief from Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)

Most people believe that you have to see veins bulging out of your legs to seek a diagnosis and treatment; this is simply not true. In many cases, people have no visual signs of vein disease and have only the symptoms. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is one of these instances.

What Is Restless Legs Syndrome?

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition that causes patients to experience an overwhelming urge to move their legs. Because RLS is often worse at night and while laying down, the condition can worsen sleep quality and wreak havoc on your quality of life.

Are restless legs keeping you up at night? Stop tossing and turning. Schedule a consultation at Wellness & Surgery today.

Many patients suffering from restless legs syndrome also describe symptoms associated with venous insufficiency (VI) and varicose veins. Venous insufficiency is a condition that causes blood to pool in the veins of the legs, while varicose veins are simply enlarged, twisted veins. Dr. Arad of Wellness & Surgery uses several treatment methods to effectively eliminate venous insufficiency (VI) and varicose veins. You can learn more about these conditions and their treatments here

Symptoms of Restless Legs Syndrome

Restless legs syndrome does not cause pain, but it is incredibly uncomfortable. The hallmark symptom of RLS is an uncontrollable urge to move or fidget the legs. Moving the legs helps relieve this urge. Patients may describe this urge as:

  • Aching
  • Creeping and crawling
  • Pulling
  • Itching
  • Throbbing

The sensation is usually worse at night, which can make it difficult or impossible to fall asleep. Symptoms can also change on a day-to-day basis, with some days being much worse than others.

Restless Legs Syndrome Treatment

At Wellness & Surgery, Dr. Arad uses vein treatments to help patients with varicose veins or venous insufficiency who also have RLS. These treatments – which help relieve restless legs symptoms – include:

Radiofrequency Ablation: Radiofrequency Ablation uses radiofrequency energy to heat the inside of the vein walls, virtually eliminating damaged, nonfunctioning veins by causing them to close.

Sclerotherapy: In this treatment, a special foam that causes scarring is injected into troublesome veins. Scarring causes these problematic veins to close off, resulting in blood flow being rerouted into healthy veins.
